The WAWONA HOTEL has wonderful old world charm and fascinating history. The Wawona Hotel staff is fun and unpretentious making a stay here comfortable and relaxing. A stay at the Wawona Hotel is a treat any time of the year but a visit to Yosemite during the winter is a special treat for any Yosemite National Park tourist.
The building of the Wawona Hotel was quite a process. The first building went up in 1876 as part of a stage stop on a passenger and freight line. This section known as “Long White” was one of the only surviving structures after a fire destroyed the other building at the stage stop. Long White became the anchor for the new Wawona Hotel group, and the main building opened in 1879. As you will see when you arrive at the Wawona Hotel the structure has fascinating features that complement each other and add its charm.

A statement by the National Park Service historian Gordon Chappell
in 1975 states: “Wawona's architectural importance to American architecture is as the largest existing Victorian hotel complex within the boundaries of a national park, and one of the few remaining in the United States with this high level of integrity. The site is listed in the National Register as nationally significant in the area of art, regionally significant in the areas of commerce, conservation, and transportation, and of local significance in the area of exploration and settlement.” A stay here is a historic one as well as being a wonderful place to vacation.
When staying at the Wawona Hotel you will enjoy European Style Rooms, Daily Maid Service, Furnishings in Victorian Period Pieces and Antiques, No Televisions, No Telephones (in keeping with the spirit of our national parks). Call and make reservations today. Several reservations have opened up and you could be on your way to perfect holiday treat.
