You will have plenty of photo opportunities with a good chance to walk to a couple of waterfalls. Walking among the Giant Sequoias and reaping the benefits of all the awe-inspiring views from Glacier Point are part of the reasons why visting Yosemite during the warm months is ideal. Dynamic vistas and the opportunity to learn about the all important aspects of its rich chronicles, geology, vegetation, animal life and current events of this extraordinary park make it one of the most visited.
Fewer people in the wintertime equals a greater chance of seeing and enjoying the wildlife in the most pacifistic seasonal time in Yosemite, winter. With wintertime in full swing, Yosemite Falls springs to life with the silence of the valley being punctuated by the sound of ice crashing over the falls. Seeing the snow blanket Yosemite simply adds another dimensional characteristic to Yosemite's breathtaking beauty.
Beverages (water and soda) will be available throughout the day as well as lunch which will be prepared by a premier resort in the area.

The exact date of Glacier Point opening/closing isn’t known until it happens, but it generally opens the weekend prior to Memorial weekend and closes after the first significant snow storm, usually about the middle of November. Our Rates are based on those dates, but if you’ve paid for a Summer tour and Glacier Point is closed, Discover Yosemite will refund the difference.
Your lunch choices are smoked turkey and Gouda cheese on whole wheat bread, ham and Swiss on rye, roast beef and Cheddar cheese on sourdough bread or avocado, roast pepper, tomato, cucumber and alfalfa sprouts on seven-grain bread and kid's banana, peanut butter and jelly on white. Half Day Yosemite Tour: ↑TOP
Mariposa Grove / Glacier Point
If time is of the essence, you might want to consider our Half Day Yosemite Tour. Although the tours seem to be a little more fast-paced, tours tend to be smaller and more intimate. Our guides will give you an in-depth introduction to the natural and human history of Yosemite.
The Half Day Yosemite Tour allows you to experience the serenity of the Giant Sequoia trees and breathtaking views from Glacier Point.
The Giant Sequoia trees were once thought to be the largest living things on earth and are still unequaled for sheer grandeur. John Muir once called the sequoia “the very god of the woods."
On a guided walk to the Grizzly Giant* (96 feet in circumference and around 1,800 years old), you’ll learn how seeds smaller than a piece of oatmeal can grow into trees that dwarf everything around them.

With an elevation of 3,214 feet over Yosemite Valley, the views of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome and the High Sierra are enduring. On your way to Glacier Point, you'll pass through what many consider to be the most entrancing region of the park, the "High Country" forests and wildflower meadows.
*This 1.6 mile round trip hike may not be suitable for those with difficulty walking or young children. However, guests are welcome to enjoy the grove on their own rather than on the guided hike.
Yosemite Valley
With an area only seven miles long and no more than a mile wide, many people think of Yosemite National Park when thinking of Yosemite Valley only to learn that this is a fraction of the 747,956 acre park.
Every driving turn through Yosemite Valley feel's like driving through a giant’s Japanese garden: every turn transforms into new vistas. With photo stops at Tunnel View (one of the most famous vistas in the park), and several other scenic locations, you’ll be able to see El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, Half Dome and other famous features and have time to walk to at least one waterfall.**
**Bridalveil Fall runs year round, but other falls, including the famous Yosemite Falls, are seasonal.

Sunset Yosemite Tour (Sunset at Sentinel Dome): ↑TOP
Walking along a mountain path, Alpenglow spreads a golden patina over granite boulders and wildflowers an hour before sunset. Basking in the sun all day, the scent of vanilla usually drifts from Jeffrey Pines.
Climbing to the top of Sentinel Dome, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of Yosemite. As crimson and/or purple hues inundate the western slopes of the Sierra in addition to the shadows climbing the cliffs of Yosemite Valley, you'll be able to savor a picnic dinner in the surrounding beauty. As birds chatter and a night hawk screeches as it swoops upon its dinner, bats perform an aerial ballet right above you. Before it succumbs to nightfall, Half Dome seems to glow with an inner light.

Full Moon at Sentinel Dome: ↑TOP
Yosemite Valley's picturesque view becomes otherworldly when lit by a full moon. At Yosemite’s 4,000 to 8,000 feet elevations, the moonlit night seems to permeate the thin atmosphere to reveal every feature of the landscape. The granite cliffs transform into a moonscape with its silvery light from the moon.
