Kandahar Lodge

Kandahar, the Lodge at Big Mountain, is a bed and breakfast hotel located in the center of a recreation mecca. Step out of the front door of the Lodge to enjoy the Big Mountain Resort. It offers world-class skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Summer brings gondola rides to the Summit, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, tennis and frolf (frisbee golf). "Walk in the Trees" is a unique adventure experience that tours the trees on a canopy boardwalk.

 

Majestic Glacier National Park, located 24 miles east of Whitefish, is open all year. During the summertime, visitors enjoy the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, which winds through the center of the park and over the Continental Divide, as well as camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, golfing, boat tours, backpack trips, and endless sight-seeing opportunities. "Winter Wonderland" takes on a new meaning in the presence of towering cedars, crystal lakes, and snow-covered mountains. While weather conditions eventually dictate the closure of some roads, many sports are available throughout the winter in Glacier. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and back country camping are permitted. Motor home and tent camping is available at Apgar, two miles inside the West entrance.

 

The beautiful Flathead Valley is big and broad and offers a multitude of recreational opportunities. Flathead Lake lies in the center of the valley and is the largest freshwater lake this side of the Mississippi. Flathead Lake, Whitefish Lake and several wild and scenic rivers serve as a playground for water sports enthusiasts, fishermen and white water rafters.

 

There are twelve golf courses in the Valley offering challenging and incredibly scenic golf. Whitefish is home to Montana's only 36 hole golf course, sections of which border Whitefish Lake.

 

There are national forests in every direction and city, state and county parks throughout and wilderness areas on the perimeter. Cultural amenities include several museums, art galleries and nearby Native American reservations.

 

Kandahar Accommodations

 

The Kandahar Lodge is a cozy and inviting three-story European style lodge built around a central sunken lobby with an massive rock fireplace, and an array of comfortable sofas and chairs flanked by reading lamps, period antiques and original art.

 

 

The entrance to Kandahar Lodge has window arches and side panels of etched glass that display mountain and forest scenes by local Whitefish artist Myni Ferguson.

 

The rooms are richly appointed with handsome architectural details that use cedar and pine wood. Studio kitchens and bathrooms are finished with tile and granite. Leather furniture and plush carpet add to the comfort and appeal of the lodge.

This cozy room is efficiently arranged and has a queen bed, bistro table with two chairs, microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom has a granite vanity and shower. The bed has a down comforter covered with a cut velvet pile duvet. This room is located on the second floor of The Lodge.

The beds have down comforters covered with cut velvet pile duvets. The rooms are located on the first and second floors of The Lodge (the first floor is one floor above the lobby).

The units have air conditioning.

Executive Suite

The Executive Suite is a beautifully decorated accommodation with a private entrance. It offers a sunken living room, dark wood furniture and a full kitchen with dining area. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting area. The master bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has two queen beds and the third has one queen bed. There is also a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. One bathroom has a tub/shower combination, the other bathroom has a shower and laundry facilities. The kitchen is completely equipped with full size appliances. The suite sleeps up to 10 persons.
