Many summer adventures await you at Glacier National Park from an adventurous drive along Going to the Sun Road, to Whitewater Rafting and everything in between Glacier is a great place for an annual family vacations to romantic weekend getaways.

The first thing you will probably do is travel the Going to the Sun Road. This spectacular 52 mile, paved two-lane highway bisects the park east and west. As it crosses over the Continental Divide it climbs to 6,646-foot-high at Logan Pass, before descending towards the what is known as East Glacier. You will be amazed by the views that include large glacial lakes and cedar forests in the lower valleys to windswept alpine tundra atop the pass. Scenic viewpoints and pullouts line the road, so motorists can stop for extended views and photo opportunities. At Logan Pass you’ll want to take a break and hike a trail that offers you the cleanest air and most beautiful views you’ve ever experienced. Along the trail you’ll most likely run into wildlife from pika and marmots to graceful mountain goats that occasionally walk along the path with you. It’ll be well worth your time.

Intense hikers will enjoy the backcountry of Glacier. With over 700 miles of trails in the Park, the choices for hikes are extensive and accommodate all ability levels. If land isn’t your thing there are a wide variety of water based activities. There are at least a dozen lakes all around Glacier. Motorboats are allowed only on Lake McDonald, Sherburne Lake, St. Mary Lake, Two Medicine Lake and Waterton Lake. Canoes and other non-motor boats are allowed in most waters of the park. Some waters are closed to protect critical wildlife habitat. You can find out where boats are allowed by contacting National Park Reservations.
