Lake Powell has 1,986 miles of shoreline. Since filling with water from Glen Canyon Dam in 1977 Lake Powell has proven to be a premier attraction for millions of visitors from all over the world. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area comprises more than a million acres in southern Utah and northern Arizona surrounding Lake Powell.

Lake Powell winds its way through a desert paradise with excellent views of balancing rocks, pinnacles, buttes, arches and amphitheaters. The combination of clear skies, crystal clear water and red sandstone rock formations makes this national recreation area an ideal place for the outdoor enthusiast. Lake Powell is more than just a fantastic recreation area. Awesome in its dimensions and complexity, its desolate beauty makes it an experience never to be forgotten.

In an average water year, Lake Powell is at its lowest in March, when the spring runoffs begin and the lake level starts to rise. September to May sees the best water levels. These are also the “slower” months at Lake Powell when vacationers wane and there are less motor boats. If you are looking for a paddling vacation this is the time to go. Incidentally, these are also cooler months with average highs are 66.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
