Denali Saddle Safaris is a horseback outfit offering guided "trail" rides and overnight trips in the wilderness area surrounding Denali National Park. We use the term "trail ride" loosely around here. Because of our location and elevation we don't have a set "trail" in a lot of places; we can ride side-by-side - just like on Bonanza! Our horse back rides in the Alaska wilderness surrounding Denali National Park are fun for the whole family. Reservations are required. Courtesy transportation available. All pickups are 30 minutes prior to departure
Tundra tour: 2HR. $125. The perfect ride for those who want a real taste of Alaska but who don't want to brave four hours in the saddle. Your savvy horse will carry you up the open tundra to an elevation of 2500 feet, and return through a beautiful ravine that melds into taiga. Amazing views will have you constantly reaching for your camera. Excellent natural history lectures and great chances to view wildlife, especially moose! Moderate difficulty.
Alpine tour: 4HR. $199. You and your sturdy mountain horse will ascend a 3800-foot ridge overlooking the Healy drainage and the National Park. Ride up into pure alpine terrain where 100-year-old trees are only 6 inches tall. This ride offers astounding views of 'The Great One'- Denali. This tour covers it all- taiga, tundra, the alpine- from wildflowers to marmots, moose and bears. Snack provided (if you can eat it before your trusty horse does! It’s their favorite treat!). Requires Intermediate Experience.
Age/ Weight Limits: A minimum of age 7 to ride "on the trail". No riding double and no infants in backpacks. Weight limit for a rider is 250 pounds.
Weather/ Temp: Realistically you should expect temps to range from about 30 to 80 degrees, averaging about 65-75. Mountain weather patterns can change quickly so be prepared for any and everything in one day. Yes the daylight lasts forever...isnt it awesome!
