One Last Hurrah

Yesterday Going-to-the Sun Road was open for the last day this year. Accordingly we took a drive up the spectacular 52 mile, paved two-lane highway the connects west and east glacier national park. The day was cloudy so not terrific for picture taking but amazing for the views.
Once at the top we parked the car at the visitors center and hiked the Hidden Lake Trail. It was glorious to hike along the trail, past multiple glaciers, outstretching prairie, and grazing mountain goats. At the top of the trail is a lookout point with stunning views of Hidden Lake. The view of the sapphire waters full of trout define this mountain lake that is as refreshing after the 1.5 mile hike as the bottle of cold water that I brought to my lips.Â
After photo ops and discussions about nature we turned around and headed back down the trail. The mountain goats were now lying in groups watching hikers descend back down the trail as clouds grew a bit darker with the impending setting sun and the end of another marvelous season at Glacier National Park.
