I remember being a little girl and my parents taking us to see films of the areas we visited.  This was not only a welcome reprieve from the heat of the outdoors (and a load off tired feet) it was also a time to learn about the history and peoples of the area.  Yosemite is not alone in providing an introductory film about the history and culture of the park. So regardless of which national park you are visiting this year look into their cultural offerings. 

 

Films like, Spirit of Yosemite provide an introduction to the stories behind this and other parks grand beauty, extraordinary community of living thins, American Indian culture and history of the wildland preservation.  Spirit of Yosemite is a 23 minute film shot over a period of two years.  This film motivates visitors to discover their own special connection with Yosemite.  Be sure to find out about national park movies at the visitors center at the park you and your family are visiting.  It is a real treat that you won’t be sorry you took time out to experience.
