I’m back! I was away visiting family in Utah last week (hence, no blogging).  But I’m back in beautiful Whitefish, Montana.

Utah is a beautiful land in the winter.  Spring is a great time of year to visit and we took advantage of all Utah has to offer! (Or at least as many things as you can fit into a family activity packed week.)

Antelope Island: Antelope Island is the largest island in the Great Salt Lake. It is reached via a 7.5 mile causeway. Much of the island appears barren and deserted but it is home to bison, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, mule deer, coyotes, bobcats, upland game birds, and waterfowl. We first walked along the beach which has solid with packed wet sand.  Gathering some of the unique round sand that is found on the beaches we first walked along the edge of the buoyant, thick-looking water of the lake.  Next we enjoyed the visitors center where we were able to find out about the unique geology, biology, and history (which I found very interesting) of the island.   Along the way we saw about a dozen bison grazing or just standing majestically against the pale blue sky.

We also visited sights around Salt Lake City; The Gateway Mall is a modern development of outdoor shops, condominiums and offices.  The Gateway was built in preparation for the 2002 Olympics which were held in that city.  In the center of it all is a huge fountain that is synchronized to shoot out spouts of water to an accompanying musical celebration in commememoration of the XIX Olympic Winter Games.

There are a number of other sites from Hill Air Force Base to the North of the city to of course skiing at one of the numerous resorts found in Northern Utah.  The snow there is like no other; pure powder as you careen down the steep mountain side of a quiet morning run.  Ahhhhhhh, Heaven!

There’s still time to visit Utah and take part in the snow fun to be had. So get out there and “Ski Utah” today!
