Sign Of The Times
Recent information indicates that visitation to Yellowstone National Park hit a new record in June, and is on a near record pace for the first six months of the year. The park recorded 612,095 recreational visits in June 2008. That’s up 2,489 visitors from June 2007, and marks only the second time in history that Yellowstone’s June visitation has topped the 600-thousand mark.
You may ask why? Most likely its a sign of the times, in an unsure economic year more folks are staying close to home for their summer vacations. Perhaps this is the perfect time to re-discover the vast natural resources that our national parks offer. There really is no better way to relax and unwind, perhaps even find some adventure than in the unparallelled beauty found in our national parks. From the coastal beauty of Olympic National Park to the mysterious delicacy of Shenandoah, our national parks have been preserved and protected for just this purpose, to provide a space for visitors to retreat from the stresses of life and enjoy a few days of otherness.
